Livingston Eyre was part of a multi-disciplinary team that bid successfully for the renovation, and extension, of six secondary schools within Cambridgeshire’s Building Schools for the Future Framework.
The design – informed by extensive liaison with the school, County Council, CABE, Sport England and the Planning Authority – creates a welcoming, safe arrival for all. It improves connections between the school and the local community, who use its new theatre and enhanced sports facilities.
Working with the built form, the landscape spaces include outdoor learning opportunities to support the curriculum: outdoor classooms; growing, habitat and wildlife areas; a school orchard and willow biomass coppice. External play is very important, and there are dedicated high and low energy play zones. The courtyards contain quiet seating areas set within bold textural planting.
