The extension and refurbishment of this primary school provided the opportunity to address its disjointed and impractical site layout. Livingston Eyre prepared outline proposals for West Berkshire County Council before completing details for the contractor, Wimott Dixon.
At the front of the school, a direct, safe and legible entrance now welcomes pedestrians, with car parking and deliveries safely separated.
At the rear, a variety of different sized multi-functional areas cater for informal social use and for outdoor learning. Improvements include expanded growing gardens and sports pitches, a new habitat area, and a sensory garden outside the special educational needs classrooms.
All of this is set within an easily-supervised layout, in contrast to the previously fragmented areas. The school’s rear boundary has been augmented with screen planting that mitigates the impact of busy surrounding roads.
